Superstitious.......

Of course as soon as wrote the title the song popped in my head and I immediately flash to the opening scene of I'm Robot.  Who doesn't love a wet Will Smith.  Any way I digress!  Do you and your family have superstitous especially for the New Year?  I remember growing up with so many and I still carry them with me to this day.            Don't sweep anyone feet or they will go to jail, Don't buy your spouse a watch because time will run out.  Don't buy shoes or they will run away.  Don't walk under ladders.  Don't break the mirror or you will have seven years bad luck.  There were just so many.  Are there any superstitions that you grow up with? I found this article that I thought you might be interested in to help bring in the New Year.  http://www.businessinsider.com/new-years-eve-superstitions-that-might-bring-you-good-luck-2016-12 Feel Free to comment and share with your friends! Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice marks the beginning of winter and is the shortest day of the year. On this day, it seems as if the nighttime darkness lasts all day and all night. At the North Pole, the sun never rises on this day. It is not the coldest days of winter, as the northern hemisphere continues to lose more heat than it gains. This will continue until late in winter, as the longer daylight hours at that point begin to have a net warming affect. But for now, heat up a cup of hot chocolate and put another log on the fire! Winter will be here for a while. By the way, while the northern hemisphere is experiencing it's shortest day, the southern hemisphere is basking in sunshine and enjoying the first day of summer. For thousands of years, Winter Solstice  has celebrated the new solar year. It celebrates the return of the sun, as every day now will see more sun. The sun is at it's southernmost point, and now begins it's long, six month journey north. Winter Solstice is also bee

The first event was sponsored by American Express, in partnership with the non-profit  National Trust for Historic Preservation , Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, and Roslindale Village Main Street. In 2010, the holiday was promoted by  American Express  via a nationwide radio and television  advertising campaign .  Feel Free to comment and share with your friends! The popularity of this holiday quickly spread. Today,  it is celebrated with loved ones and friends. However, we encourage you to follow the intent of the original holiday, and find ways to give candy and small gifts to those in need. Feel Free to comment and share with your friend

National Taco Day

National Taco Day is a holiday that celebrates the traditional Mexican dish and is celebrated annually on October 4th. While most people know what a taco is, not everyone agrees on the definition of the best taco. Some people like their tacos in soft tortilla shells, while others prefer hard shells. It is also a dish that can be filled with just about anything – from beans and rice to beef, chicken, fish and just about anything else you can think to fill it with. However, there is one thing that most people can agree on: tacos are delicious! When is National Taco Day? This year (2017) October 4  (Wednesday) History of Tacos When tacos were actually invented is something that isn’t currently known. Many food historians believe that this food began during the 18th century in Mexican silver mines. That’s because the word “taco” was used for the explosive charges they used to dislodge silver ore from the rock of the mines. These charges were basically pieces of paper that wer

National Boyfriend Day

National Boyfriend Day is a day that is commemorated on October 3rd every year and is an unofficial holiday in which women can spend the day showing their boyfriends the love and appreciation they desire. This year (2017) October 3  (Tuesday) Next year (2018) October 3  (Wednesday) Last year (2016) October 3  (Monday) History After doing extensive research, I can find no proof of this holiday being created or it being celebrated in any way whatsoever. As such, it may be an Internet myth but since it has been mentioned on several reputable websites, I think it’s safe to say it is one that is going to grow in popularity over time. Customs, Traditions and Celebrations Since little is known about this holiday or its origin, it’s really hard to pin down ways people might practice it. However,

Balloons Around the World Day

Balloons Around The World is a made-up holiday that aims to spread cheer around the world. It is celebrated annually on October 1. The unofficial holiday was created by Jeff Brown in 2000. The holiday encourages people to use balloons and the art of balloon twisting and decorating to bring smiles to the faces of those around them. Animal Bladders Balloons are bags, usually colorful and made of rubber or latex that can be filled with air or gases like Helium. Early balloons were made of animal bladders. While balloons are frequently used for decorative purposes, they can also be used for transportation, to gather atmospheric information, and by doctors to open up clogged arteries. How to Celebrate? Have a party and use balloons for decoration. Learn how to make balloon animals and objects. If you already know how to make balloon objects, make some and give out to random people on the street and see them smile. What about taking that special one on a hot air balloon ride?

Business Women's Day

Date When Celebrated : September 22 Business Women's Day recognizes the value and contribution of women in the business world. The roots of this special day go back to the late 1940s. While men were off fighting World War II, women filled the void in the workforce. The returning soldiers found the women eager to have their men return. But, many women were not anxious to return to traditional roles in the home. Since this time, women's role and contributions in the workforce have grown and evolved.
