        Of course as soon as wrote the title the song popped in my head and I immediately flash to the opening scene of I'm Robot.  Who doesn't love a wet Will Smith.  Any way I digress!  Do you and your family have superstitous especially for the New Year?  I remember growing up with so many and I still carry them with me to this day.            Don't sweep anyone feet or they will go to jail, Don't buy your spouse a watch because time will run out.  Don't buy shoes or they will run away.  Don't walk under ladders.  Don't break the mirror or you will have seven years bad luck.  There were just so many.  Are there any superstitions that you grow up with? Winter Solstice marks the beginning of winter and is the shortest day of the year. On this day, it seems as if the nighttime darkness lasts all day and all night. At the North Pole, the sun never rises on this day. It is not the coldest days of winter, as the northern hemisphere continues to lose more heat than it gains. Go For a Ride Day When : Always November 22 Go For a Ride Day  is today. And, what a splendid time you will have! As the holidays approach, life becomes chaotic, and perhaps a bit stressful. Take a breather, and go for a relaxing ride. You don't need a destination to enjoy this day.  But, you certainly can bring family or friends along for company. The means of transportation can be anything. Sure, a car, bus, or motorcycle ride may immediately come to mind. Here are some other ways of riding, that may prove more fun than the family vehicle: Take a sleigh ride. Ride a horse. Ride a horse-drawn carriage. Snowmobile rides are always "cool". America Recycles Day Date When Celebrated :  Always November 15 America Recycles Day  encourages us to recycle, and use products made from recycled material. Recycling is not difficult. It sends less material to the waste stream ,and it results in consuming less of our precious and limited natural resources. According to the National Recycling Coalition,  America Recycles Day  "is dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products". Sadie Hawkins Day  Date When Observed:  Always on November 13 Here is a holiday that originated from a cartoon. It all began in Al Capp's "Lil Abner Cartoon in the 1930's. In the cartoon series, the mayor of Dogpatch was desperate to marry off his ugly daughter. So he created Sadie Hawkin's Day. On this day, a race is held and all the single men were given a short head start. Then, all the single women, including the mayor's daughter, chased the boys. If a girl catches her man, he had to marry her. Sadie Hawkins Day races and events grew in popularity during the course of All Capp's long running cartoon. This cartoon made holiday largely died out after 40 years when the cartoon was discontinued. Balloons Around The World is a made-up holiday that aims to spread cheer around the world. It is celebrated annually on October 1. The unofficial holiday was created by Jeff Brown in 2000. The holiday encourages people to use balloons and the art of balloon twisting and decorating to bring smiles to the faces of those around them.         National Coffee Day, also known as Coffee Day or International Coffee Day, is a holiday that celebrates this hot beverage and the joy it brings to people all over the world. Date When Celebrated : September 25 National Comic Book Day is a super cool day. Share a comic book with a friend today. We don't know of anyone who doesn't like a good comic book. Comic books are great reading. They either tell an ongoing story, provide humor, or offer intrigue and suspense. In all comic books, good eventually prevails over evil. So, comic books always make us feel good. Did you Know? (of course you did!): Comic books have great value as a collectors item. Don't ever throw away those old comic books. Down the road, the series you are collecting today, may be worth its weight in gold! Date When Celebrated : September 22 Business Women's Day recognizes the value and contribution of women in the business world. The roots of this special day go back to the late 1940s. While men were off fighting World War II, women filled the void in the workforce. The returning soldiers found the women eager to have their men return. But, many women were not anxious to return to traditional roles in the home. Since this time, women's role and contributions in the workforce have grown and evolved. Ladies, have a Happy Business Women's Day! Origin of Business Women's Day: Hilary A. Bufton Jr. and three Kansas City business women founded the American Business Women's Association(ABWA) on September 22, 1949. The first Business Women's Day was celebrated in 1982. In 1983, a joint Congressional resolution was passed, and signed by President Ronald Reagan proclaiming September 22 as Business Women's Day. President Ronald Reagan also issued Proclamation 5532
