Don't Fry Friday

Date When Celebrated:  Friday before Memorial Day Don't Fry Friday  is a very important day for you and your skin. It occurs just as the Memorial holiday begins, and at the start of summer. At this time, sunshine is the most intense. People are seeking the sunshine and the great outdoors after a long winter. The purpose of today, is to educate people, and to make them aware of the dangers of overexposure to UVA and UVB rays. These UV rays come from the sun, and from popular tanning booths. They are the primary cause of skin cancer. Very Important:  Skin cancer is very treatable and curable, if caught early. Unfortunately, early detection does not always occur. If you have even the slightest suspicion, go get checked out by your doctor.... immediately. A little sunshine is good for you. It provides important vitamin D, and sunshine brightens your mood. It's over exposure that damages your skin, and can result in skin cancer. There's a better way to get vitamin D

Lucky Penny Day

Date When Celebrated:  Always on May 23 It's  Lucky Penny Day . Perhaps a Lucky Penny will be lucky for you today. Taken at face value, a penny doesn't buy you much, if anything. It used to. During your parents and grandparents days, a penny bought a lot of things. Most notably, "Penny Candy" got its name because a piece of candy cost a penny. Inflation year after year after year, eroded the penny's value. There has even been some discussion as to whether to discontinue the penny....Heaven forbid! The penny still serves a very useful purpose...  at least some of them are lucky pennies.  Lucky pennies are found on the ground. Not all of the pennies you find will be lucky. But, it will only take one lucky penny used to scratch off the mega winner on a a scratch-off ticket. Are you superstitious?  Superstition has it that you should only pick up a penny that is lying face up. Here are some other uses for pennies: A penny for your thoughts. To

Love a Tree Day

Date When Celebrated:  Always on May 16 It's  Love a Tree Day . So, go out and give a tree a great big hug. Or, climb up into your favorite tree, and share some quality time with it. Trees are a good thing. They give us shade, comfort and warmth. They give off oxygen, too. There are many, many benefits provided by trees. So, you have good reason to love a tree or two. Everyone has a favorite kind of tree. Use today to identify a tree you love, and to pamper it. Give it a trim. Eliminate competitors around it. Feed it a dose of fertilizer. Tree spikes work great.
