A waffle iron is powered by electricity to heat the plates and create, light waffles ready for you to top with syrup, and/or your favorite fruits. Waffles are not just for breakfast. They are good for lunch or dinner, too.   The origin of the waffle:   The waffle dates back to the 1300s in Greece. Greeks cooked flat cakes between two metal pans. At the time, they topped it with cheeses and herbs. Pancake syrup wasn't around back then. You do know how to celebrate this day.......don't you!? What Dad really wants is healthy, happy and successful kids. And, he wants you to spend a few moments with him on Father's Day. Today's life style is busy for both dads and kids. So, a little time with dad on Father's DAy is just what he wants. A Father is more than the biological paternal source of our being. It is the person who cares and provides for us. It is the man who helps to set the standards, the family values and the example. So, add to this group, step fathers and other men who willingly and eagerly accept and cherish the role. Whether biological, adopted or informally, if they are the father figure to you, give him some recognition today and don't hesitate to call him "Dad". Spivey’s Corner, North Carolina has a population of about 50 people. But, on   National Hollerin' Contest Day  , an estimated 5,000-10,000 people come to enjoy the annual National Hollerin’ Contest. Can you imagine the honor of winning this contest!? Its definitely something to yell about. Did you know? Juneteenth Day Date When Celebrated:  Always on June 19 th Juneteenth day celebrates and symbolizes the end of slavery in the United States. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862. It was not until June 19, 1865 that all slaves were finally freed. That concluding event was when General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas with his troops and issued Order Number 3 which finally freed the last of the slaves. International Sushi Day When : Always June 18 Something's fishy. That's because today is International Sushi Day. Sushi was created in Japan.It is a well known type of Japanese cuisine, but often isunderstood. Most of us think of sushi as a finger food containing raw fish. It certainly is a finger food. But, sushi does not have to include fish. This relatively new special day is titled an "International" day. We found very little reference to this day outside of the U.S. There is only one requirement for this day. Simply eat some sushi.
